Welcome to the Old Dawg’s Real Estate Investors Network, where old dawgs CAN learn new tricks.
I’ve created this website as a resource to help those approaching retirement as well as those already there. I will be sharing my personal journey as I learn real estate investing along the way. In this blog, I will share the steps I am taking as I pursue my goal of obtaining 1,000 doors/units of real estate in the next 6 years. I will share my successes as well as my mistakes. In this process I will also share the stories of others who have successfully used real estate for their successful retirement .
The mission of the Old Dawg’s REI Network is to: share valuable real estate information and practical tools you can apply in your life to relieve financial struggles — to thrive not just survive in your retirement years.
Through the Old Dawg’s REI Network, I will share my personal journey toward financial growth, showing how I’m working toward meeting my personal goal of owning and/or having a controlling interest in 1,000 units of real estate in the next 6 years. Meanwhile, I’m building this site as a resource, filled with valuable information and resources from financial experts, real estate investors and, most importantly, other successful seniors (Later Year Rangers) with their own inspiring stories and tips of how they used real estate to turn their financial challenges into retirement dreams.
It’s my hope that you will develop the resources and cash flow stream you need to
It is my hope that the Old Dawg’s REI Network will prove that it’s possible for someone like me—or you—to utilize real estate investing to enjoy our retirement years, and leave a legacy to our children.
Please don’t get me wrong. I am not promising “get rich quick” fairy tale riches. Quite the contrary. There are no magic formulas it’s just a lot of thoughtful, hard work upfront and then light oversight as you reap the rewards. All I am doing is taking methods and approaches that others have successfully utilized, and sharing them with you. Some of these I will apply to my situation and goals, others I may not.
It will take education, research and careful planning to get going. You must be willing to roll up your sleeves, learn some new things, make mistakes and grow in the process. But for those of you who persist and are committed, the rewards are long term and will generate passive income over the long run that equals freedom. Once you set-up your “cashflow machine” the idea is to carefully monitor, as needed, but mostly enjoy your free time.
Now, keep in mind, I’m not a real estate guru, and I’m certainly no expert. I have nothing to sell. I’m learning like you are. All I have is my personal experience, time and determination—and an interest in sharing my journey (the good, the bad and the ugly) as I live it out.
I purchased my first real estate investments only two years ago (2014) – two single family homes and one duplex. The following year I bought another duplex. Recently, I purchased a 22-unit apartment building. My next purchase will be 56 or more units. My goal, at a minimum, is to double the number of units I had in the previous year until I reach 1,000 units/doors. This should take 6 years or less. In that process, I will generate significant passive cash flow for our retirement years and live out the dreams I have always had for my family.
More than likely, what I share here and the way I present it (blogs, podcasts and newsletter) will evolve over time. Therefore, since I want the format and content to be most valuable to you, I invite your feedback and comments. Please let me know what you want to see and learn and how I can best present that information in ways that are practical and useful to you.
Thanks for stopping by and, if you chose to join me on this journey, I look forward to sharing and working with you—for a blessed and promising future!
If you want to receive my newsletter, get updates about future blogs and podcasts, click here. Please note: You won’t receive any spam or advertisements, and I won’t share your email address with anyone else.
I’m excited for what’s ahead for all of us on this awesome adventure!
Later.
God bless.

I just heard your BP podcast 191 – and while I’m single, I have a very close economic trail – 15 years working as an international teacher and no US income. I’ve got some savings, along with a duplex that I purchased for cash years ago and have been ignoring since the DEA cleaning (inherited tenants) almost a decade ago.
It’s time to return to the US next school year and I’m actively schooling myself to re-adopt my idea of rental for retirement. Looking forward to reading through your blog et. al.
Thanks for sharing your journey!
! I am also looking to fill my retirement over the next 5 years (I’m 59) with real estate rentals. An international teacher (with 15 years of no US income), I bought a duplex in SW Florida years ago and after working with the DEA on some pre-existing tenants, I’ve ignored it for too long.
After hearing your podcast (191) on BP, I’m looking forward to playing catch up in reading your blog and posts chronologically.
Here’s to the journey
